A guide to comparing international language certificates for the purposes of determining language skills
The following table offers a guide for comparing internationally recognised certificates for the various languages and levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The certificates listed below do not automatically qualify students to attend language courses alongside or integrated into their degree programmes. The various departments in the Language Centre are responsible for deciding to what extent certificates can be used as proof of language ability for course placement purposes.
The certificates listed below have no relevance for language practice modules taken within the context of a degree programme in languages. In these instances only the provisions in the respective degree programme and examination regulations apply.
The language skills required for admission to a degree programme are given in the relevant degree programme and examination regulations.
