Registration process for German courses for students of all disciplines

Before and during registration

You must register for the German courses in Erlangen and in Nuremberg on your own within the registration period on studon. Alternatively, you can also visit the course catalog on campo and get to studon from there via a link.

Clarify your level placement before registering on studon. If you are enrolled and have taken a placement test or German courses at FAU, then we usually know your status at FAU and your placement.

If and only if you want to assess your level using a language certificate accepted by us, please take a scan or photo of the certificate and upload it to our upload page on studon before the registration deadline. You can find out which language certificates we recognize here.

After registration

When you register, you will first be placed on a waiting list. There is no ranking on this waiting list. Then, during the first week of the semester, the department “German as a Foreign Language” checks whether your registration(s) are correct. After that, the course places will be assigned. If there are more applicants for a course than course places available, the department decides on the allocation of the course places. You will be informed by email by the end of the first week of the semester whether you have received your course place. German courses usually start in the second week of the semester.

If you have received a course place, we expect you to attend the course from the beginning. If you do not show up for the first session without excuse, you will lose your course place again and will be removed from the course list. Please understand this drastic measure, because sometimes there are too few course places and there may be students who are on a waiting list. We would then be happy to give such course places to them.
