Placement Tests

Registration for a placement test via StudOn

To make sure you take an English class at the right level, we need to assess your skills. You have three options:

1. Take a PLACEMENT TEST

The test result is only used to decide which level of course you can attend. You can therefore not “pass” or “fail” it. No grades or points are allocated for the placement test, instead, you are given a ‘level’: E, 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4:
Level E > take “Level E - Elementary English”
Level 0 > take courses at “Level 0”
Level 1 > take courses at “Level 1”
Level 2 > take courses at “Level 2”
Level 3 > take courses at “Level 3”
Level 4 > take courses at “Level 3” and/or “Level 4”
To sign up for a placement test, please click here.
It takes place in Bismarckstr. 1, (basement); signs will lead you to the correct room.
The placement test is a c-test. For more information, please see here.
The placement test may be repeated once in another semester, but only before the first course has been taken. As soon as one course has been taken, all other courses have to be attended in the prescribed order.

2. 2. You have an internationally recognized test

Please check here if your test is recognized. If your certificate is not listed, please take a placement test.
For more information on the how to have your test recognized, please click here.

3. You have at least 10 points in ENGLISH in your 'Abitur'

If you have 10 points in your English Abitur, you permitted into classes at here.

Please take the placement test as soon as possible.
We cannot issue a document confirming your placement test level.
The placement test cannot be used to certify a CEFR level.

Participation in our courses is not possible without a valid placement test result.

Test result

  • Placement test Level 4 → entitled to take Level 3 and / or Level 4 courses
  • Placement test Level 3 → entitled to take Level 3 courses
  • Placement test Level 2 → entitled to take Level 2 courses
  • Placement test Level 1 → entitled to take Level 1 courses
  • Placement test Level 0 → entitled to take Level 0 courses
  • Placement test Level E → entitled to take Level E – Elementary English

The test result is binding. Please only register for courses at the level which corresponds to your test result. If you register for courses above or below the level achieved, your application will be rejected.
